BackgrounD information

The current ISQC 1 has served its purpose. It was introduced to consolidate the practice’s policies and procedures in one simple Manual. The new ISQM 1, effective as from 15 December 2022, is expected to move from binary, compliance-based processes to a much more proactive, dynamic, risk-based quality management approach. This standard endeavours to be usable by practices of all sizes and complexities – hence scalability is a key component. The key changes from the current ISQC 1 relate to: -
• A risk-based approach focused on achieving quality objectives
• Modernises standards to address technology, networks, and the use of external service providers
• Increases focus on the continual flow of information and appropriate communication internally and externally
• Proactive monitoring of quality management systems and timely and effective remediation of deficiencies
• Enhances engagement partner’s responsibility for audit engagement leadership and audit quality
• Increases firm leadership responsibilities and accountability, and improves firm governance
• Clarifies and strengthens requirements for a more robust engagement quality review
ISQM 1 forms part of a suite of 3 quality standards.

SPECIFIC TOPICS TO BE COVERED DURING THE SESSION

International Standard on Quality Management (ISQM 1), Quality Management for Firms that perform Audits or Reviews of Financial Statements, or Other Assurance or Related Services Engagements.
