    Speakers' Profiles

    Karen Sultana
    Ms. Karen Sultana is the Head of the Accountancy Board's Quality Assurance Unit within the Ministry for Finance. She is a certified public accountant and holds a practising certificate in auditing with the Accountancy Board. She is also a fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants.
    Shawn Falzon
    Shawn Falzon is the Assurance Leader at EY Malta and has been with EY since 2000. He brings over twenty five years of professional experience across a wide range of industries, including insurance, banking, real estate, gaming, telecommunications, and hospitality. He serves a number of public interest entities and high profile clients and has extensive experience leading complex audit engagements, including listed entities, public interest entities and cross border groups, as well as groups preparing for local and US IPOs. Shawn is an officer and Council Member of the Malta Institute of Accountants and serves as Vice Chair of its Audit and Assurance Group, where he actively contributes to the advancement of the profession and ongoing engagement with regulators and key stakeholders. He is a Certified Public Accountant, an ACCA Fellow, and holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Malta.


    Thomas Galea
    Appointed partner in October 2021, Thomas is the Head of Audit (Operations) of the Malta practice. During the past 21 years, other than in Malta, Thomas has worked within the audit function of the Irish and US KPMG offices gaining experience in several industries, particularly Banking and Private Enterprise.


    Christopher Cardona
    Christopher Cardona is a Partner in the Assurance practice at PwC Malta, with over 15 years of experience in engagements, within the financial, regulated and private sectors. He has led statutory audits under IFRS and local GAAP (GAPSME & GAPEE), as well as engagements involving complex accounting and regulatory frameworks. Christopher also coordinates the firm’s engagement compliance reviews, with a focus on audit quality, reporting and adherence to ISA requirements. He is a Certified Public Accountant, holds a practising certificate in auditing, and is a Fellow of the Malta Institute of Accountants (MIA). He currently chairs the MIA's Insurance Group and is a member of the Audit and assurance Group.
