Agenda

  • Mr Renzo Farrugia will start with a brief overview of the requirements of ISQM 1 with a focus on the risk assessment process and how the risk areas are identified
  • Moderated by Mr Paul Giglio, a debate between Mr Jean Paul Debono, Mr Renzo Farrugia, and Ms Anita Grech on the Implementation of ISQM 1 by smaller practices.
  • MIA Guidance by Ms Lucienne Pace Ross, on 'Launch and Introduction'.
  • Ending with practical questions.

SPEAKERS' PROFILES

Renzo Farrugia is an auditor by profession and an external quality control reviewer as recognised by the Accountancy Board of Malta. He worked with one of the big four audit firms and several Government Entities and since then held various high profile management roles within the public sector. Renzo is also a visiting lecturer at the University of Malta and a member of the Audit and Assurance Committee of the Malta Institute of Accountants. He graduated from the University of Malta in Accountancy (Hons) and obtained an MBA from Henley Management College (University of Brunel in the United Kingdom).
Paul Giglio is an accountant by profession and a partner at Mazars Malta specializing in Assurance and Taxation services. He is a member of the MIA Financial Services Committee and MIA SMP Group, and a speaker in various technical events.
Lucienne Pace Ross joined PwC in 1997 after obtaining a degree in Accountancy from the University of Malta. She is also a member of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and the Malta Institute of Accountants (MIA), and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Lucienne was appointed as Asssurance partner at PwC on 1 July 2006.
Lucienne acts as assurance engagement leader on a diverse client portfolio including Groups of companies and other non-Group companies that vary in size and structure. Her client portfolio has led Lucienne to gain experience in the audit of local and foreign-owned companies engaged in various areas of industry and commerce, particularly financial services.
Lucienne is actively involved in audit methodology matters and acts as the quality and risk management partner. She has also participated in seminars to the public on assurance related matters. She is the Chairperson of the MIA Audit and Assurance Committee and a member of the MIA Anti-Money Laundering Committee.
Jean Paul Debono is Certified Public Accountant and Practicing Auditor by profession. He is specialised in accounts, taxation and financial reporting and has extensive experience in servicing local and international clients across a wide range of industry sectors. Before founding Debono & Associates, a multi-disciplinary firm offering audit, accounting, tax and advisory services, Jean Paul worked with various medium sized firms servicing both domestic and international clients. Jean Paul has an all-round grasp and knowledge of commercial affairs in Malta and is routinely involved in effective business decision making, advising on corporate structure, corporate finance and on the preparation of business plans. Jean Paul has served as Chairman of the Malta Institute of Accountants Young Members Committee and is also a Chairman of the Malta Institute of Accountants SMP Group. He also holds non-executive directorship roles with various companies

Anita Grech is Certified Public Accountant and Practicing Auditor by profession. She is currently a Senior Audit Manager at Mazars Malta and is specialised in audits of PIEs and listed entities and has extensive experience working on local and international groups of companies. She previously worked with one of the Big Four firms and has also gained experience working in industry. Anita is part of firm’s technical team and involved in internal training on audit methodology and is also deputy chairperson on the MIA’s sustainable finance committee.
