MIA Technical team presents to MCAST Students
Wednesday, 13th March 2019
The MIA Technical team was invited to present to Level 4 Accounting Students at the Institute of Business & Commerce at MCAST, another initiative to educate our future workforce on the emerging role of the accountant and the diverse career paths of the industry.
The Contemporary Issues Unit invited the Institute to deliver a two-hour intervention to MCAST pupils studying Accounting, Level 4 in an initiative to expose the students to industry professionals and to developments in the field of accountancy. Myriam Borg and Claudia Vella Schembri delivered an interactive and practical session to the budding 16 / 17-year olds to broaden their views on what an accountant’s job is actually, as well as introduce the diverse career paths and progressions one may enjoy in the field.
They thus proceeded with
- an overview of the skills required for the chosen career as well as how these acquired skills can be applied on-the-job,
- the career possibilities that a CPA qualification would lead to,
- the Institute’s role vis a vis labour market participant,
This was further demonstrated by creative, inspiring videos that supported the implicit notion that a career in finance can be fun and rewarding!
Having energized the youngsters, Myriam and Claudia switched gears and split their audience into smaller teams who were tasked with executing a business plan.
Having explained what a business plan is and its relevance and function to business and the finance world, the teams were asked to think of an innovative idea. The task was to formulate a plan for the launch of that product or service into market, within set parameters including elements of marketing, costings and profitability.
Each plan will be reviewed with feedback given to all the teams and their members in due course.
