Background Information

The Coronavirus (also known as COVID-19) outbreak is a global health emergency originating in Wuhan, China but quickly affecting other regions including Europe and neighbouring EU states. The Public Health Inspectorate and Superintendence in Malta has already issued guidance on self-quarantine and no cases have been reported in Malta to date. That said, the outbreak has already had serious repercussions on business and employment with companies taking active precautionary measures (such as asking employees travelling back from effected areas to self-quarantine). This short session will deal with the latest updates on how this public health emergency should be managed and dealt with in the workplace, how employee absence should be treated and what other measures should be taken by management to ensure that business operations are not hampered while employee welfare is safeguarded.
