Skill, professionalism
and honesty are essential attributes in any profession, as is the need
to serve the wider public interest. It is the duty of the Institute
to safeguard these values.
The Institute
is governed by a Council of fourteen members drawn from all spectrums
of the profession. Its work is shared with a number of committees and
with the Institute's own permanent secretariat, and covers the following:
|
|
Education
- This activity accounts for a large part of the work of the Institute.
It covers the management of student affairs, the continual updating
of syllabi, the holding of the Institute's courses and the setting
and correction of examination papers.
|
|
|
Professional
- Different committees deal with accounting and auditing standards,
ethical rules and continuing professional education. As CPE requirements
have now been formalised, the Institute holds regular seminars and
these are well attended. |
|
|
Discipline
- Investigative and disciplinary proceedings are handled by separate
committees comprising senior members of the profession. Proceedings
are normally initiated following complaints received from members
or from the general public. |
More information
on the above matters can be obtained from the Institute upon request. |
